Recognizing Youth-Led Initiatives

Planet Project Youth Impact Award
The Planet Project Youth Impact Award recognizes outstanding young people and youth-led teams who are helping accelerate the Great Transition toward a just, sustainable, regenerative, and peaceful planetary future.
The award celebrates young changemakers who are not waiting for that future to arrive, but are helping bring it into being—through leadership, innovation, service, collaboration, community building, and other forms of meaningful action.
Recipients demonstrate the potential of young people to turn vision into action: addressing pressing challenges while building new relationships, practices, technologies, institutions, and ways of working that point toward the world we need.
The award is not limited to participants or volunteers in the Planet Project. It may recognize young people and youth-led teams anywhere whose work exemplifies meaningful participation in the Great Transition.
What We Recognize
At the heart of the award is a simple question:
Does this person or team, through their actions, demonstrate or help bring into being some aspect of a more just, sustainable, regenerative, peaceful, and cooperative future?
The Planet Project is particularly interested in recognizing young people who are prefiguring the future—not only responding to problems within existing systems, but experimenting with, creating, or strengthening the relationships, practices, technologies, institutions, communities, and ways of working that a better future will require.
Recipients may demonstrate this contribution in many different ways, including:
- Making an Impact — Turning concern and vision into tangible positive change for people, communities, or planet.
- Stepping into Leadership — Taking initiative, accepting responsibility, mobilizing others, and turning ideas into action.
- Building Partnerships — Working collaboratively, building bridges, and connecting people across communities, cultures, disciplines, generations, or organizations.
- Learning and Growing — Seeking knowledge and guidance from others and applying that learning to become a more capable changemaker.
- Acting with a Larger Purpose — Connecting individual or collective action to the broader transformation toward a thriving planetary future.
- Prefiguring the Future — Demonstrating through action what new systems, relationships, institutions, technologies, or ways of living and working might look like.
Recipients need not exemplify every one of these qualities. The award recognizes the many different ways young people can make consequential contributions to the Great Transition.
Eligibility
The award may recognize an individual young person or a youth-led team whose work aligns with its purpose. While the Planet Project creates opportunities for young volunteers to develop leadership and contribute directly to its work, participation in the Planet Project is not a requirement for recognition.
The emphasis is on what young people are doing with the opportunities available to them—and the difference their initiative, creativity, collaboration, and commitment are making.
Selection and Recognition
The Youth Impact Award is an honor bestowed by the Planet Project, rather than a competitive award program. There is no formal application process, nomination cycle, or fixed schedule for making awards.
Recipients are recognized at the discretion of the Planet Project Core Team when the team becomes aware of an individual or youth-led group whose work represents an especially meaningful contribution to the Great Transition and embodies the spirit of the award.
Awards may therefore be made whenever circumstances warrant. There is no requirement that an award be given in any particular year, nor any predetermined limit on the number of individuals or teams that may be recognized.
This approach allows the Planet Project to recognize exceptional youth leadership as it encounters it—and to use the award to shine a light on emerging examples of the Great Transition already taking shape in the world.
