Scientists Propose Planetary Intelligence. So do we.

This Planet Project blog cites a paper from the International Journal of Astrobiology that describes a view of intelligence “not as something which happens ON a planet but TO a planet. These astrobiologists go on to suggest that perhaps a species and its planet can evolve “planetary intelligence”, which they define as “the acquisition and application of collective knowledge, operating at a planetary scale, which is integrated into the function of coupled planetary systems.” This echoes a foundational tenet of the Planet Project is that humans are beginning to evolve planetary intelligence, and a positive future is possible for our species and our planet if enough of us can acquire this new kind of intelligence, and soon enough.
