Ecocivilization
Ecocivilization is Jeremy Lent’s ambitious attempt to move beyond diagnosing the failures of industrial civilization and envision what could actually replace it. Drawing on the design principles of living systems, Lent explores how economics, governance, infrastructure, agriculture, housing, and other foundations of society could be reorganized around justice, mutuality, diversity, symbiosis, and the flourishing of life. What makes the book especially relevant to the Great Transition is its explicitly Horizon 3 orientation: rather than proposing incremental reforms to an extractive system, it asks us to imagine civilization itself differently—and shows that elements of this future are already being practiced around the world. Ecocivilization therefore serves as both vision and bridge, helping make a regenerative planetary future more coherent, tangible, and achievable. It closely reflects the Planet Project’s commitments to interconnectedness, cooperation, ecological stewardship, systems thinking, sacred regard for life, and the co-creation of a thriving planetary civilization.
