Peter Joseph

Peter Joseph is a cultural critic, film maker, and systems thinker whose work confronts the structural foundations of modern economic and political life. Best known as the creator of the Zeitgeist film series and founder of The Zeitgeist Movement, Joseph has played a significant role in bringing systemic critiques of capitalism, debt, scarcity, and institutional power into mainstream public discourse.

His 2017 book, The New Human Rights Movement, advances a provocative argument: that meaningful social progress requires moving beyond rights-based frameworks dependent on enforcement, toward responsibility-based systems grounded in access, sustainability, and structural prevention of harm.

Joseph’s work is notable for its refusal to personalize blame and its insistence on structural causality. Rather than focusing on villains or ideology, he directs attention to feedback loops, incentives, and institutional architectures — a stance that resonates strongly with collapse-aware, post-reformist approaches to change. While his tone is often confrontational and uncompromising, his underlying orientation is regenerative: redesign the system, and human behavior follows.

Within the context of the Planet Project, Joseph’s contributions align with core themes of systemic literacy, governance transformation, and the need for new economic and coordination models capable of operating beyond extraction, coercion, and enforced scarcity.
