Jem Bendell

Jem Bendell is a British sustainability scholar and emeritus professor of sustainability leadership, best known for originating the *Deep Adaptation* concept — a framework for understanding and responding to the cascading effects of climate change, societal disruption, and systemic collapse. His viral 2018 paper *Deep Adaptation: A Map for Navigating Climate Tragedy* has sparked global dialogue on resilience, relinquishment, restoration and reconciliation in the face of unfolding ecological crises, and led to the founding of the Deep Adaptation Forum — a global community exploring compassionate, pragmatic responses to disruption and collapse. Bendell’s work challenges conventional sustainability paradigms and invites deep psychological, cultural, and systemic reflection on our collective predicament, aligning with the Planet Project’s values of truth-seeking, minimizing harm, planetary stewardship, and compassionate systemic transformation.
