Cecosesola (Central Cooperative of Social Services of Lara)
Cecosesola is a historic federation of cooperatives in Barquisimeto, Venezuela, founded in 1967. It began when communities came together to offer funerary services and evolved into a radically non-hierarchical network that now provides weekly produce markets serving over 100,000 people, affordable healthcare for 250,000 annually, savings and loans, and cooperative funeral services. Guided by consensus-based decision-making, rotating roles, and equal pay, Cecosesola embodies commons-based economic models deeply rooted in trust, solidarity, and justice. Awarded the 2022 Right Livelihood Award, they represent a powerful example of commoning within capitalist markets and an enduring model for cooperative stewardship aligned with Planet Project values of relational economy, self-organization, equity, and compassionate cultural renewal.
