Brett KenCairn
Brett KenCairn is a pioneering practitioner of community-based living-systems regeneration whose work reframes the climate crisis as fundamentally a crisis of the living Earth. Rather than centering carbon accounting and technological fixes, he points to the degradation of soils, forests, watersheds, biodiversity, and photosynthetic capacity—and to their restoration as a powerful pathway for stabilizing climate while regenerating human communities. As founding Director of the Center for Regenerative Solutions and a leader of Nature-based Climate Solutions for the City of Boulder, KenCairn works at the intersection of ecological science, local government, community organizing, and landscape restoration. His vision is distinctly Great Transition-oriented: mobilizing communities everywhere to become active stewards of their places, creating livelihoods and economic opportunity by restoring the biosphere’s capacity to sustain life. In Three Horizons terms, his work is a compelling Horizon 2 bridge toward a Horizon 3 civilization in which healing ecological systems and strengthening human communities become inseparable parts of the same project.
